Since 1945, the CPCU Society's Los Angeles area Chapters have been a continual source of superior educational events, leadership development and professional affiliation for our members, the insurance industry and the general public. The CPCU designation not only represents high educational standards, it also reflects the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in our industry, virtues which are of the utmost importance to both the industry and the public we serve.

Marijuana Law – Impact on Insurance--Robert May of Kilmer, Vorhees & Laurick, PC will discuss the evolving insurance risks associated with increased state legalization of marijuana, both medical and recreational. In addition to providing an update on the current state regulatory landscape, Mr. May will examine the issues legalization presents from a Property, Liability, and Workers' Compensation perspective. This session has been filed for 1.0 hours of CE credit.
Drones – Evolving Risks and Opportunities--Andrew Spiegel of United States Aviation Insurance Group will explore the exponential growth in drone usage, the insurance risks presented by this expansion, and the ways in which the insurance industry is addressing these exposures. In addition, Mr. Spiegel will discuss the various ways in which insurers are using drones themselves to improve their risk evaluation capabilities. This session has been filed for 1.0 hours of CE credit.
Diversity in the Insurance Industry – The need for increased diversity in both employment and education is frequently in the news. Dr. David Russell will host a panel of both professional experts and new industry employees to explore the various types of diversity, the demographic trends driving the discussion, and best practices on how to attract, retain, manage and develop industry professionals with different life experiences, motivations, and career expectations.
Recent Developments and Issues in Claims – Mr. Kelly Yates of Topa Insurance will discuss recent changes and challenges in claims-handling with a panel of industry and legal experts. Topics explored will include medical bill review challenges and opportunities, new legal and regulatory developments and the ways in which insurers are attempting to address them, and evolving claims-handling requirements. This session will be filed for 2.0 hours of CE credit.
