Please join us for the 73rd Annual Los Angeles area CPCU I-Day, co-hosted by the Los Angeles and California El Camino chapters. The event will take place at the Sportsmen’s Lodge on November 6th, 2018.

Since 1945, the CPCU Society’s Los Angeles area Chapters have been a continual source of superior educational events, leadership development and professional affiliation for our members, the insurance industry and the general public. The CPCU designation not only represents high educational standards, it also reflects the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in our industry, virtues which are of the utmost importance to both the industry and the public we serve.

To our new CPCUs, we congratulate you on your achievement! Remember that earning your designation is only the beginning of your journey. We encourage you to become active in your local CPCU Chapter and take full advantage of the educational, leadership and networking opportunities such engagement provides. Doreen Sanchez

National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB)

NICB Special Agent Sanchez is a former U.S Special Agent. Her journey began at the NICB in 2007, where she was assigned to the opening of the NICB’s Los Angeles Major Medical Fraud Task Force. In 2012, Special Agent Sanchez was re-assigned to the NICB California Headquarters and currently investigates organized rings exploiting the insurance industry, where her instruction includes the LAPD BCIS, the California District Attorney’s Conference, the International Association of Special Investigations Units, and the U.S. Attorney General Conference.

Dan Shoham


Dan Shoham is a Lead Data Scientist at Farmers Claim Actuarial and Predictive Analytics Group. Dan spent 30 years in various machine learning and artificial intelligence roles, including Principal Scientist at FICO, CEO of predictive analytics startup Edgeware Analytics, and Staff Scientist at M.I.T. Lincoln Laboratories. Dan holds a PhD in Mathematics from Temple University, a dual MBA from Columbia University and London Business School, as well as a California CPA license. He is also the named inventor of numerous granted US patents in the area of Artificial Intelligence.

Tori Pinckney

Project Lead Data Analytics

Tori Pinckney is the Strategy & Operations Manager for the Farmers Claims Actuarial and Predictive Analytics Group. Her team builds and deploys predictive models throughout the Farmers Claims organization. Prior to joining Farmers in 2017, Tori worked at various startup and nonprofit organizations. Tori holds a BS from Cornell University, an MBA from the University of Southern California, and is a certified PMP.

Todd Hess

Swiss Re

Todd Hess is the Head of Risk Management P&C Reinsurance in the Americas for Swiss Re. He started his actuarial career in Reinsurance in 1983. Todd was Managing Director of a Lloyd's managing agency immediately before joining Swiss Re in 2001. He has concentrated for the last several years on Structured Reinsurance and Large Transactions. In his current role he offers risk management advice on the company's largest P&C reinsurance deal prospects. Todd graduated from Yale University, is an FCAS and MAAA.

Dan McElvany


Dan McElvany is the Head of Reinsurance at Farmers Insurance Group, where he leads a small team in the tasks of exposure management, catastrophe modeling, and the placement and maintenance of dozens of Property & Casualty treaties. Prior to joining Farmers in 2017, Dan worked at Swiss Re for 21 years where he managed the US Property Treaty business placed through reinsurance intermediaries.

Steven J. Badger

Steve represents the commercial property insurance industry in emerging and significant risk exposures, both as a plaintiff in large loss catastrophe subrogation matters and as a defendant in coverage matters involving weather related litigation. Currently, Steve’s practice is devoted entirely to leading the insurance industry response to the emerging hail risk. His practice focuses solely on addressing the issues arising in hail damage claims and resulting litigation. Prior to his hail work, Steve devoted a decade of his career to leading the $5 billion subrogation action arising from the 9/11 Terrorist Attack.

Tim Felks

Mr. Felks spent 10 year in the Air Force before joining Farmers’ Claims unit.  He went on multiple deployments around the world including Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch and other assignments.  He is a graduate of Wayland Baptist University in Anchorage, Alaska and a CPCU Candidate who is working on his last CPCU exam.  In 1997 Mr. Felks joined Farmers.  He has held various levels of leadership positions at Farmers.  He is actively in the forefront of many innovations like IOT and AI that is transforming the industry.
